A few years ago, I took a chance and asked if designer, educator, author, typographer Ellen Lupton would be willing to come to Samford for a lecture and a workshop. In February of 2025, she came to Birmingham and gave a lecture entitled "How to Fall in Love With Typography" to our Graphic Design students and a design community eager to hear from one of the greats.
I had the privilege (and inherent weight) of designing a poster to promote the lecture at Samford, surrounding universities, and around Birmingham. How do you design something for such a giant of design? I tried really hard to make the poster a bit of a collab — capturing Ellen with a design that is fitting for her and her contributions, while still designing it within my "style."
