Devil In The White City
Not a paid project, this was a cover I designed to serve as an example of a type-centric cover design and to use as the basis for a Photoshop demo on utilizing and creating texture for my Book Cover Design course.
Have We Lost The Plot?
Another book cover I got to design for my dad. It is really hard to think about the word "plot" without thinking of the obvious—books. I curated a stack of older casebound books with minimal ornamentation on the spine. I adjusted the colors and added the type in Photoshop.
The Man Who Was Thursday
Not a paid project, this is a cover I designed to serve as a a demo for typesetting a book's interior, printing and perfect-binding (technically double-fan binding) the pages, and finally printing and wrapping the cover around the book block.
You're Grounded
This was a book cover I designed for Moody Press in Chicago, IL.
Meals From Mars
Another opportunity to design a book cover for a family member, I was hired by Desire Street to design this cover for a book written by my brother.
Meals From Mars (rejected)
Another opportunity to design a book cover for a family member, I was hired by Desire Street to design this cover for a book written by my brother.
This version is a cover that I loved, but ultimately wasn't selected. The evidence board was digitally designed and then physically printed/constructed and photographed. The map was created and the images were curated to represent crucial plot points.
So, What's Your Point?
Another book cover I had the privilege of designing for my dad. Like lots of things I do, I worked back and forth between digital and analog. The background was created as vector art in Illustrator and then printed on a toothy paper so I could photograph it with the strings and collaged map pin question mark.
On Preaching

Kai'Ro: The Journey of an Urban Pilgrim
This book is a modern retelling of the 17th century tale The Pilgrim's Progress in an urban vernacular. Originally self-published, it was picked up for a short time by Moody Press (Chicago, IL). When the 10-year anniversary rolled around, it was republished by Desire Street. I designed covers for all three releases.
Kai'Ro Returns
This book is a sequel to the original Pilgrim's Progress story as told in Kai'Ro: The Journey of an Urban Pilgrim. Originally self-published, it was picked up for a short time by Moody Press (Chicago, IL). When the 10-year anniversary rolled around, it was republished by Desire Street. I designed covers for all three releases.
Does the Bible Have a Point?
I've had the privilege of designing several book covers for my Dad. One semester he asked if I could help him with this one. I admittedly didn't have time, but asked if he'd be willing to let me tackle it under a 1-hour time limit. I screen-captured the digital execution of a sketch and used it as an example in class of working quickly. It's definitely not my favorite design…but it's better than what he had made in Apple Pages. Good try though, Dad! :)
