Alabama (the state in which I currently reside) was the last state in the nation to repeal their ban on miscegenation — or interracial marriage. That repeal didn't come until the year 2000. And as absurd as that is, it's not even the worst part. The vote to abolish the ban on interracial marriage was still opposed by 40% of electors. That means that if my wife and I had been married 5 years earlier (and weren't married in California), our marriage would have technically been illegal.
