This was a print I created as my part of a second print portfolio I organized with ATL-based printmaker Jamaal Barber, called The Dream (Is Still) Deferred — a collection of prints by 15 diverse artists responding to inequality and injustice on a broader scale than the first portfolio. My print is inspired by the poem The New Colossus which is inscribed on the base of the Statue of Liberty. It calls the statue the "mother of exiles" and speaks of how she serves to welcomes  to our shore, those who were rejected, longing to be free. It's ironic how far we have come from being the country Emma Lazarus described just under 150 years ago
