This print was designed for inclusion in a protest print portfolio curated by Beverly Keys entitled Pipelines & Borderlines: People Can't Drink Oil. in response to BP retrofitting the heavily polluting oil refinery in Whiting, IN to process Canadian oil sands. My print took a satirical jab at the fact that the very water the refinery plant was polluting was Lake Michigan — which is the source of drinking water for all of the Chicagoland area, among others. The gold background is a pattern created from a simplification of the BP logo, and the fictional water bottle label puts the impact on drinking water in a more ironic context.
The portfolio was exhibited at least six times in two countries. My print was also included in an Earth Day exhibition entitled Water is Life at the American Indian Center in Chicago, IL.
